“Shogun” Rua and “Hendo” On Weight for UFC 139
By FCF Staff
While Tom Lawlor dressed as Steve Seagal may be what most people will remember from today’s UFC 139 weigh-ins in San Jose, several of the card’s competitors failed to make weight on their initial attempts.
Lightweight Shamar Bailey came in at a reported 158 pounds for his fight tomorrow with Danny Castillo, while scheduled bantamweight opponents Miguel Torres and Nick Pace both came in over the allowed 136 limit.
While Torres came in just over at 137, Pace had reportedly already conceded that he would be overweight for the fight, and tipped the scales at 141. The bantamweight will forfeit 20% of his purse as a result.
Torres and Bailey have two additional hours to make weight. During the weigh-ins, UFC commentator Joe Rogan stated that there was an apparent discrepancy between the scale backstage and the one being utilized for the official results.
Main event competitors Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Dan Henderson both made weight, as the former UFC champ Rua came in at 205 and the Strikeforce champion Henderson weighed in at just 203.
