Following Antonio Silva’s quick and bloody loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 146, the former’s manager Alex Davis has been fielding questions regarding his client’s loss, and in particular, the cut between Silva’s eyes that bled profusely throughout much of the bout.

Velasquez promptly took Silva to the mat during their main card bout, and proceeded to open a gash between Silva’s eyes with an elbow. While being interviewed on MMA Junkie Radio following the event, Davis revealed that the cut, which was soon pouring blood into Silva’s eyes, only required three stitches to repair it.

Davis reportedly proceeded to add that he does not believe elbow strikes should be allowed in MMA, and in a post today on the Underground, the manager clarified his comments further.  Some of what Davis had to say included:

I also think that elbows on the ground should not be allowed. For the most part, they cause cuts, which are diferent then KOs, TKOs or Subs. They also tend to make a bloody mess, sometimes from relatively minor damage, and this does not help MMA as it tends to alienate many people to the sport.

I didnt mean in no way to diminish Cain’s victory, or make an excuse for Bigfoot’s defeat, but simply state a fact that myself, and any one else who watched the fight, witnessed.

The loss was Silva’s (16-4) second in a row, as the heavyweight was knocked out by Velasquez’s teammate Daniel Cormier in September, while competing in Strikeforce’s Heavyweight Grand Prix.

Prior to the defeat the Brazilian fighter had won three straight, which included wins over Andrei Arlovski, Mike Kyle and Fedor Emelianenko.
