As the Ultimate Fighting Championship scrambles to respond to a wave of injuries that’s hit its summer schedule, the promotion has announced that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will fight Brandon Vera in the headliner for its next UFC on FOX card.

The upcoming August 4th card in Los Angeles had been set to feature a middleweight bout between Brian Stann and Hector Lombard, but Stann was forced to withdraw due to an injury. Now Lombard will fight Tim Boetsch at UFC 149 on July 21st.

Rua was originally expected to face Thiago Silva at UFC 149, but an injury to Silva forced the cancellation of that fight as well.

“Shogun” (20-6) will be looking to rebound from a unanimous decision loss he suffered against Dan Henderson in November, in what was one of the year’s more memorable bouts. Prior to the loss the former champion stopped Forrest Griffin in the first around at UFC 134 last August.

Vera (12-5) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Eliot Marshall in October, which ended a three fight winless streak for the veteran.

The former heavyweight had been scheduled to fight James Te Huna at the upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 4 card; the UFC is searching for a new opponent to face Te Huna.

The UFC has also announced that Pablo Garza will no longer be able to fight Josh Grispi (14-3) on August 4th as expected due to injury. Rani Yahya (16-7) has agreed to take Garza’s place.
