“UFC Tonight” Fighter Panel Discusses TRT Issue in MMA

By Michael Hatamoto

Former and current UFC stars speak on Fuel TV’s “UFC Tonight” program about the controversial use of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) in MMA.

Retired UFC fighter Kenny Florian said “drillers are killers,” implying the recovery time and training advantages TRT users can have over the majority of non-using fighters. He doesn’t believe TRT should be allowed in MMA.

UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz mentions how the workout intensity and aid recovery are aided by the use of TRT. Cruz believes it should be “all or nothing” regarding TRT’s use – as it should be outright banned, or allowed for everyone.

Bisping believes random testing throughout the season would help crack down on PED use in MMA, which isn’t a widely shared viewpoint among MMA fighters. He also said the entire TRT discussion is “nonsense” because of the performance-enhancing advantage its users are unfairly able to obtain.

Meanwhile, Rashad Evans believes athletes will find ways to gain a competitive edge against the opposition, saying people will do it regardless of regulation. Ultimately, Evans claims fighters should be allowed to use it without risk of punishment from the athletic commission.

The debate surrounding TRT is a growing topic among MMA fans and fighters with both sides displaying a lot of emotion. As more fans begin to learn about TRT, don’t expect it to go away any time soon.
