Jon Jones

By FCF Staff

Two of the UFC’s biggest stars have been nominated for the ESPN’s “Best Fighter” 2013 ESPY , as light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones and middleweight champ Anderson Silva are two of the five contenders.

Rounding out the nominees are boxers Floyd Mayweather Jr., Canelo Alvarez, and Danny Garcia.

Silva and Jones have been nominated for the award now three times each respectively. To date, no MMA fighter has won the accolade.

Some of the previous MMA competitors who have been nominated for the ESPY include Georges St. Pierre, Randy Couture and “Rampage” Jackson.

Jones (18-1) has continued to impress over the last year, as the 25 year-old fighter has earned victories over Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort and Rashad Evans to rival Silva as the planet’s best P4P fighter.

Silva (33-4), meanwhile has only competed twice since 2011, and is coming off stoppage wins over Sonnen and Stephan Bonnar. The renowned 38 year-old star will fight Chris Weidman next Saturday at UFC 162.
