IMMAF European Championship 2021 Kazan, Russia

The 2021 IMMAF European & Junior European Open Championships commenced today in Kazan, Russia. The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s nation vs nation tournaments feature 214 athletes competing between Monday 16 and Friday 20 August, live-streamed on immaf.tv.

Todays’ programme included a prestigious Opening Ceremony celebrating Kazan’s elite sport legacy, local culture and international mixed martial arts competition. It featured just two senior men’s welterweight matches from the only division to stretch into rounds of 32.

IMMAF President Kerrith Brown said: “The first day of the IMMAF Euros opened with two compelling matches. The first saw an upset for IMMAF’s #2 ranked nation Russia, as Tajikistan’s Jovidon Mahmudov successfully reversed the bout to ultimately mount an unanswered offensive on the home team’s Samur Magamedkhanov. Poland’s Patryk Semeniuk went up against Kazakhstan’s Meirkhan Shapolatov in a tightly competitive and technical display which saw some superbly aesthetic striking and went to the judges. Well done to the athletes and teams for their performances. The matches are a great teaser for what is what is come this week.”
