Dana White: Demetrious Johnson Will “Absolutely” be Inducted Into UFC HoF
By FCF Staff
Although Demetrious Johnson competed under the ONE Championship banner for the last five years of his MMA career, Dana White has confirmed that the legend will be inducted into the UFC’s Hall of Fame.
During ONE’s card in Denver on Friday night, Johnson announced to the crowd that his days competing in MMA have come to a close. In an interview with John Morgan over the weekend, White was asked to comment on Johnson’s retirement and if he’ll be added to the UFC’s Hall of Fame (quote via MMA Fighting.com). White proceeded to say there’s no question the former flyweight champ will be.
“Yeah, I didn’t know that [he retired],” White said while talking to Morgan for Grind City Media.
“Good for him. Incredible career he had. I never had a problem with Demetrious Johnson. Absolutely [he’s a UFC Hall of Famer].”
The 38-year-old Johnson was traded to ONE in 2018 for Ben Askren, following his split decision loss to Henry Cejudo that August. During Johnson’s awe-inspiring run with the UFC, he set the record for title defenses at 11.
