By FCF Staff
Former heavyweight Chad Griggs has been assigned a stiff challenge in his upcoming light-heavyweight debut, as today the UFC announced that the veteran will take on contender Phil Davis, August 4th.
The bout will be part of the upcoming UFC on FOX 4 card in Los Angeles, which will be hosted by the city’s Staples Center.
Griggs (11-2) made his Octagon debut in April and was tapped out by rising heavyweight Travis Browne at UFC 145.
Prior to the defeat the 33 year-old-fighter had scored six straight victories, which included wins over Bobby Lashley and Valentijn Overeem while competing for Strikeforce.
Davis (9-1) will be looking to rebound from the first defeat of his MMA career, as the accomplished wrestler dropped a unanimous decision loss to former champ Rashad Evans in January.
During his time with the UFC Davis has gone 5-0, which includes victories over Antonio Rogerio Noguiera, Tim Boetsch, Brian Stann, Rodney Wallace and Alexander Gustafsson.
The UFC on FOX 4 card will be headlined by a middleweight bout between former Bellator champ Hector Lombard and the aforementioned Stann.
