Bellator Announces Douglas Lima Has Broken Hand; Rematch With Ben Saunders Postponed
By FCF Staff
The welterweight rematch and tourney finale between Douglas Lima and Ben Saunders will not take place on March 21st as expected, as Bellator has announced that Lima has a broken hand. According to Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, the fight will take place sometime this summer after Lima has had time to heal.
Rebney also relayed, via Twitter, that the injury happened during Lima’s (24-5) last bout, which saw the former tourney winner KO Bryan Baker in the first round.
Lima stopped Saunders in the second round of their tournament finale in November, 2011, before losing by unanimous decision to reigning champion Ben Askren last April.
Saunders (16-5-2) entrenched another tourney finals appearance at Bellator 90 last month, by knocking out Raul Amaya with a head kick.
The March 23rd Bellator 93 card in Lewiston, Maine, will feature the lightweight finals between Marcin Held and Dave Jansen.
