Although Glover Teixeira took some hard shots from Ryan Bader, and appeared to be in serious trouble during their UFC Fight Night 28 tilt, the light-heavyweight came back to score a stoppage win and secure a title shot.
After the bout the UFC confirmed that Teixeira will face the winner of the upcoming Jon Jones-Alexander Gustafsson bout at UFC 165, and when asked if he believes he’s ready to fight someone of Jones’ calibre, the Brazilian stated:
“Yes, definitely. I believe I need to focus my camp in a different manner,” Teixeira noted at the post fight press conference. “Ryan Bader is a very high level opponent; he’s fought against a lot of top people in the division, and I believe in my knockout power, my submission power and my wrestling.”
With Wednesday’s victory, Teixeira extended his winning streak to 20 and the 33 year-old has now gone 5-0 in the UFC. The loss was Bader’s second in his last five bouts, and comes after he quickly tapped out Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC on FOX 6 in January.
UFC FN 28 was hosted by Belo Horizonte, Brazil. UFC 165 will take place September 21st in Toronto, Ontario.
