Bellator Champ Eddie Alvarez Hints Michael Chandler Fight, Not Will Brooks, Likely Next?
By FCF Staff
Although Will Brooks decisioned Michael Chandler at Bellator 120 to become interim lightweight champ, it looks like a rubber match between Eddie Alvarez and Chandler is in the works after all.
Alvarez and Chandler were set to fight on May 17th, however, the lightweight champ withdrew due to a concussion. Brooks replaced Alvarez, and went on to score a tightly contested, split decision victory over Chandler.
On Saturday, Alvarez posted the following tweet, which seems to indicate Bellator wants him to fight Chandler next.
I tried my best Big homie Your boss ain't having it , I feel bad U earned it , but unfortunately Interm is all Ur getting a shot at F'ed up

It should also be noted that Alvarez recently told the “MMA Hour” that he believes “the interim champ should get the shot.” Following Bellator 120, the promotion’s CEO Bjorn Rebney revealed that Alvarez has the contractual right to request a third fight with Chandler.
In their first meeting, Chandler tapped out Alvarez in the fourth round, in what was one of 2011’s best fights.
The two met again last November, and Alvarez won the thrilling fight via split decision.
