Report: UFC’s Cain Velasquez Recovering From Successful Surgery, Spring Return Likely
By FCF Staff
Although 2014 will close out without Cain Velasquez fighting, the UFC heavyweight champ will reportedly be ready to compete again sometime in spring, 2015.
Recently it was announced that Velasquez was withdrawing from his November 15th bout with Fabricio Werdum, due to a knee injury. In a follow up report from MMA Fighting.com, the champion’s coach Javier Mendez, has revealed that Velasquez has undergone successful surgery to repair a partial tear of his meniscus. As a result, the renowned fighter should be able to compete again in early 2015, likely in March.
Mendez added in the report that he expects Velasquez will be ready to resume full out training in December.
Due to Velasquez being injured, Mark Hunt has been tapped to fight Werdum for an interim title at UFC 180.
The 32 year-old Velasquez hasn’t fought now since last October, when he stopped Junior dos Santos in the fifth round.
