Todd Duffee Off July 16th DREAM Due to Injury
By FCF Staff
Fans hoping to catch Todd Duffee’s first appearance of 2011 will apparently have to wait even longer, as the UFC vet has withdrawn from this Saturday’s, July 16th DREAM card due to an undisclosed injury. A source close to the fight confirmed to FCF today that Duffee is indeed out of the bout, after ESPN reported that the heavyweight would no longer be competing due to the injury.
The heavyweight (6-2) was scheduled to fight Nick Gaston at DREAM: Japan GP Final, which will be hosted by Tokyo’s Ariake Coliseum.
The 25 year-old Duffee hasn’t competed since New Year’s Eve, when he was quickly knocked out by Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem at K-1’s Dynamite! event.
Duffee’s only other appearance in 2010 took place at UFC 114 in May, when Mike Russow came from behind to stop the heavyweight prospect in the third round. The loss was the first in Duffee’s career and ended a six fight winning streak.
DREAM’S Japan GP Final event will feature the Japanese bantamweight grand-prix finale between Masakazu Imanari and Hideo Tokoro.
Some of the other bouts scheduled for the card include light-heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi vs. Hiroshi Izumi, welterweight champion Marius Zaromskis vs. Hayato Sakurai (non-title bout), and lightweight Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Drew Fickett.
