Chris Weidman Says Michael Bisping’s Not “The Biggest Challenge”
By FCF Staff
Chris Weidman and Michael Bisping have traded plenty of verbal shots in recent months, but if the “All-American” never gets a chance to face “The Count”, he’ll be just fine…
After Weidman submitted Kelvin Gastelum in July, the former middleweight champ campaigned for a bout with Bisping. But, the latter is expected to defend the title against Georges St-Pierre, at UFC 217 on November 4th.
Since Bisping won the 185 title last June, by knocking out Luke Rockhold, the 38 year-old has said he doesn’t intend to fight for that much longer. So, if Bisping were to lose to St-Pierre later this year, some have questioned if the British star might retire.
Weidman was a guest on the latest “Submission Radio“, and when asked if he’ll be upset if he never gets to fight Bisping, he stated this (quote via Bloody Elbow):
“Nah, I don’t care,” Weidman said. “I want the biggest challenges, and honestly I don’t think he’s the biggest challenge. Definitely, whether he’s the champ or not, he’s not the individual that I get excited to fight because he’s champion. I could get excited to fight him if he had the belt. Other than that, which I don’t see him having the belt very long, I don’t see any reason to fight him.”
Weidman’s win over Gastelum snapped the New York fighter’s three fight, losing skid.
