A bout between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov has fallen through multiple times, but the latter’s father still hopes a fight with his son and “El Cucuy” materializes.

Ferguson and Nurmagomedov have been scheduled to fight four separate times, but in each instance, injuries or medical issues cancelled the bout. Most recently, Nurmagomedov was scheduled to face Ferguson in April, but a freak knee injury, pulled the latter from the fight.

Up next, Nurmagomedov will face Conor McGregor at UFC 229, October 6th. While discussing the match-up recently with RT Sport, Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap said this (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):

“The cage and the fight are still ahead (for Khabib and Conor).

“For the hype, for the money, to bury Conor’s era, (the situation) is even better for us,” Abdulmanap said. “But if we talk purely sports-wise – we still want the Ferguson fight. I really want him to come back and defeat Anthony Pettis.”

UFC 229 will be hosted by Las Vegas, Nevada. It will mark the first time McGregor has fought in the Octagon since 2016.
