During a recent social media session with fans, Conor McGregor reported that he broke his foot, a few weeks before UFC 229.

McGregor battled Khabib Nurmagomedov at the October 6th event, and was submitted by the lightweight champ in round four. When asked recently by a fan about his more flat-footed approach in the fight, McGregor said this:

I broke my foot 3 weeks out from the bout.
I still marched forward however, and also landed the final blows of the night.
On his blood brother.
I am happy with how the contest went and the lessons learned.
In my fighting and more importantly my preparation.
