UFC 236: Dustin Poirier Plans to “Shock The World”

Dustin Poirier

By FCF Staff

Dustin Poirier is aware that he’s the underdog heading into his bout tonight with Max Holloway, and “The Diamond” intends to “shock the world” at UFC 236.

Poirier will face the featherweight champ in the headliner of the event, which will hand the winner an interim lightweight belt. Heading into the contest, Poirier is the underdog on the betting lines in the range of +160 to +175.

While talking to the media recently about tonight’s fight, Poirier had this to say about his underdog status (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“I feel like as of lately I’ve heard people say this is an easy fight for Max – just a lot of stuff like that,” Poirier said. “The oddsmakers have it like that, not that I even care or play into that stuff. But it’s just I’m going to shock the world.”

“Tomorrow night, this a piece of the world championship,” Poirier said. “I want the whole thing. But none of that is even a reality until tomorrow night happens, so I can’t even talk about it.”

Poirier (24-5, 1 no-contest) will be fighting for the first time since last July, when he stopped Eddie Alvarez. Holloway (20-3), meanwhile, stopped Brian Ortega in his last contest, which took place in December.
