Following his one-sided win over Anthony Smith at UFC Vegas 8, Aleksandar Rakic is calling for a title shot. But, the light heavyweight contender is open to proving he can go five rounds first, if the UFC wants.

Rakic faced Smith in the headliner of Saturday’s card, and he worked his way to clear cut, decision win. Afterward, the 28-year-old called for a bout with the winner of the September 26th, fight between Jan Blachowicz and Dominick Reyes, who are fighting for the vacant title.

But, since Rakic has yet to fight five rounds, it’s unclear if the UFC would want to hand him a title shot yet.  A featherweight bertween Zabit Magomedsharipov and Yair Rodriguez was initially, supposed to serve as the main event for UFC Veags 8.

While talking about this possibility the UFC might want Rakic to be booked for a five round fight first, before receiving a title shot, he said this (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“I made a great performance tonight and I think I’m next for the title, but if the UFC want to see me in a five-round fight, they can do it,” he said. “I was preparing for a three-round fight, but I could go another two rounds with no problems, so I was ready for five. Can you imagine (a fight) with me getting ready for a five-round fight at this pace? It’s going to be amazing.”

“We’re going to see what the UFC has planned for me next,” he said. “I’m gonna be ready, it’s getting very interesting right now. Jan-Reyes, Thiago-Glover. We’re gonna see what happens.”

Heading into Saturday’s event, Rakic (13-2) was ranked #8 in the UFC’s light heavyweight division and Smith (33-16) was #5.
