Alexander Gustafsson Says Upcoming Grappling Match Could be First Step in Comeback
By FCF Staff
Recently it was announced that Alexander Gustafsson is going to compete in a grappling match, and the longtime contender says it could pave the way to his UFC return.
After the Swedish light-heavyweight was submitted by Anthony Smith this past summer, Gustafsson announced he was retiring from pro-MMA. Since then, however, the 32-year-old relayed he’s been feeling the itch to fight again, and while talking to MMA Junkie, Gustafsson said this:
“I got the itching back when I started training, but I am not prepared for a full MMA camp yet,” Gustafsson said. “I also need to work on my grappling so this is perfect, and that I get the chance to do it at home, in a town I haven’t been competing at for a long time. The event I will compete at is a new up and coming Swedish promotion called ‘AK Fighting Championship’, which I am also part owner at and it will be amazing.”
“My competition mind is always there and I would lie if I said this is not a first step but let’s see what happens.”
Gustafsson will grapple Anton Turkalj in a no-gi match December 11th in Gothenburg, Sweden.
