"Bigfoot Silva" (right) stopping Overeem at UFC 156

While the MMA world is still somewhat unsettled thanks to Chris Weidman’s upset victory over Anderson Silva at UFC 162, it wasn’t that long ago when “Bigfoot” Silva shocked the sport by knocking out Alistair Overeem. Heading into the bout, the former Strikeforce and DREAM champ had gone undefeated in 12 fights and hadn’t lost since 2007.

As a result of the loss, Overeem is no longer in line to fight champion Cain Velasquez, and will take on rising contender Travis Browne at UFC Fight Night 26. The 33 year-old fighter appeared on the latest episode of “UFC Tonight” Tuesday to promote the bout, and Overeem (36-12) was understandably asked about his UFC 156 loss to Silva.

“What happen was he knocked me out cold. I think there was a little bit of an under-estimation. He’s a dangerous guy. He has heavy bones. That was a costly price to pay. In the meantime I’ve learned all the lessons I could have. I took some time off to overthink everything that wasn’t right. In my own way I’ve been fixing everything. I’ve been in camp for four months and I feel great. I look forward to fighting again in 12 days.”

Browne is coming off a first round knockout victory over Gabriel Gonzaga in April, after being stopped by Silva last October. The 31 year-old Browne injured his hamstring shortly before he was finished by “Bigfoot.”

UFC Fight Night 26 will be hosted by Boston’s TD Garden Arena and will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1.
