Due to the fact Cris “Cyborg” went nearly 15 years without losing a MMA fight, many people have argued she deserves an immediate rematch with Amanda Nunes. But, the UFC’s new champ-champ wants to make “Cyborg” wait two years before they fight again.

The bantamweight champ moved up to 145 to face “Cyborg” for the featherweight title at UFC 232, and she took the belt by quickly knocking out the star. More recently Nunes appeared on the UFC’s podcast, and while discussing a rematch with “Cyborg”, the champion said this (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“Cyborg doesn’t want to fight me if it takes more than a year to prepare, and right now, I don’t think she’s gonna want it because I’m gonna ask for two years to be ready for her again,” Nunes said. “She said I wanted one year to be ready for her and she didn’t want to wait that much, she don’t wanna stay without fighting but right now I’m asking for two years for the rematch.”

“Yeah I’m gonna defend my belt, my original belt,” Nunes added, while referring to the bantamweight title. “Yeah, for sure I’m gonna go down, defend my belt. My division is waiting for me and we will see what happens after but I don’t think Cyborg wants to wait for two years.”

Prior to UFC 232, the last MMA bout “Cyborg” had lost was her first pro-fight in 2005.
