Anderson Silva Denies Calling Dana White After UFC 159, Still Wants to Fight Roy Jones Jr.
By FCF Staff
After Jon Jones ran through Chael Sonnen for the first round, stoppage win at UFC 159 on April 27th, Dana White relayed to the media that Anderson Silva had called him to green light a “super fight.” Although White wouldn’t offer any more details than that, since Jones had just taken out Silva’s longtime nemesis in Sonnen, many people presumed the middleweight champ had expressed an interest in fighting Jones.
Well, during a media call today to promote Silva’s upcoming, July 6th bout with Chris Weidman, the renowned fighter denied having called White. In fact, when asked about whether the phone call took place, Silva claimed:
“I think everyone knows that I didn’t call Dana,” Silva said through a translator. “I don’t even have his phone number personally, so no, I didn’t speak to him.”
Silva also relayed that he is still interested in fighting decorated boxer Roy Jones Jr.
“Of course, of course I still want to fight him, and maybe after Weidman, regardless of the outcome I would love to fight him,” Silva said. “He’s already said that he’d fight me also, so that’s something I’d like to really have happen.”
UFC 162 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
