Anthony Johnson wants to wait for the return of champion Daniel Cormier, before he fights at light-heavyweight again, but “Rumble” would fight at heavyweight in the interim.

Johnson was scheduled to fight Cormier at UFC 206, December 10th. But recently the champion had to withdraw due to an injury. Since then, the contender spoke with FOX Sports, and Johnson revealed the UFC offered him a bout with Gegard Mousasi for an interim 205 title. Johnson said he turned down the bout, since he has little to gain and more to lose by accepting that fight.

When asked if he’d be interested in fighting at heavyweight, however, Johnson said this:

“Yeah. I’ll fight heavyweight. If it’s a fun fight, I’d definitely try it out. I always said I was going to go up to heavyweight in the UFC before I retired anyways,” Johnson said. “I might as well try it out if I get the opportunity. There’s some good heavyweights out there. Those boys are big, so I’m definitely taking a big risk and a big chance fighting those guys. I look forward to the challenge.

“If I fight, it has to be at heavyweight because at 205, it’s just not worth it.”

Johnson has fought at heavyweight before. During his run with World Series of Fighting, Johnson earned a decision win over former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski in 2013.
