The concussion that cost TJ Grant an August 31st bout with Benson Henderson, has also forced the rising fighter to pass on a title fight with Anthony Pettis at UFC on FOX 9. Grant was offered to fight the newly crowned champion at the upcoming December 14th bout, but the lightweight has announced that he will not be ready to.

Grant’s tweeted late Monday: Hey people. Quick update. Unfortunately I won’t be fighting Pettis on dec 14. I am still not yet 100% n can’t commit to fight. UFC is going with someone else instead. It sucks but it is the best for both myself and the UFC. Please don’t worry. Ill be back and if I gotta fight.

As a result, the UFC has announced that Strikeforce vet Josh Thomson will battle Pettis at the December, UFC on FOX 9 card.

Thomson (20-5) hasn’t fought since April when he stopped Natie Diaz at UFC on FOX 7, after losing by split decision to former Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez last May. The 34 year-old fighter is 3-2 in his last five fights.

Pettis (17-2) is coming off a first round, submission win over Henderson at UFC 164, after stopping Donald Cerrone in round one at UFC on FOX 6 this past January. The champion is 4-1 in his last five tilts.

UFC on FOX 9 will be hosted by the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.
