Belfort to Face Liddell at Bellagio

On Saturday, June 22nd, top light heavyweight contenders Vitor Belfort and Chuck Liddell will face off in a battle to decide the number-one contender for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.

The event will be at the Grand Ballroom in the Bellagio Hotel and Casino on Saturday afternoon. The doors open at noon, and the first fight starts at 1:00 pm.

The undercard will feature many rising MMA stars of tomorrow, including several young guns from the exciting UFC 37 card. In the preliminary to the main event, Pat Miletich protégé Robbie Lawler will take on Steve Berger in a welterweight showdown. 20 year old Lawler, the UFC’s newest rising star in the welterweight division, put on spectacular show in his UFC debut at UFC 37, winning a standup war that many people believe to be one of the top five fights in UFC history.

Also in the welterweight division, Benji Radach will face Nick Serra, the younger brother of lightweight star Matt Serra; and Zack Light will fight Pete Spratt in a battle of newcomers. UFC 14 veteran Tony Fryklund makes his long-awaited return to battle Marco Ruas’ nephew Rodrigo Ruas in a middleweight showdown. In the lightweight division, Joao Pierini will fight Josh Thomson.

Tickets, priced at $150, $100, $50, and $25, go on sale Friday (May 31st), at the Bellagio ticket office (888-488-7111). Seating will be extremely limited, so don’t hesitate. The event will not be televised.

From the event’s promoter:

Extreme Challenge set at Meskwaki Casino

The Extreme Challenge, one of the nation’s longest-running mixed martial arts events, will make its first-ever appearance in Tama, Iowa, on July 27 at the Meskwaki Casino * Hotel.
Headlining the event will be big Tim Sylvia of Bettendorf, Iowa, one of the nation’s most promising young heavyweights with a record of 14-0. Sylvia, 6-foot-8 and 270 pounds, recently captured the "Return of the Heavyweights" 16-man tournament in Honolulu by knocking out all four opponents. Sylvia’s opponent is yet to be determined.
The event will feature the return of Tama heavyweight Andre Roberts, a three-time veteran of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Roberts, 6-2 and 350, will face two-time UFC veteran Zane Frazier, 6-5, 280.
Tyrone Roberts, younger brother of Andre and also a UFC veteran, will face Greg Wikan of Buffalo, Minn., in another heavyweight battle.
Vern Jefferson, former MMA National Champion, will face an opponent yet to be determined.
Besides the pro bouts, Extreme Challenge 48 will serve as an Extreme Trials event, which will bring in top amateur talent from around the nation. Winners at the Trials advance to the MMA Nationals at the end of the year.
Weight divisions for the trials are: 150-under, 170-under, 190-under, 210-under and heavyweight.
