Bellator: Recovering Douglas Lima Reports “Hand is Great”, Fighting Ben Saunders in July
By Kelsey Mowatt
Douglas Lima’s Bellator welterweight tournament finale with Ben Saunders will likely take place in July, the former has informed Full Contact Fighter.
When contacted today to see how the hand he broke during his knockout win over Bryan Baker in February, Lima relayed that the “hand is great” and that he’s back to full training.
Lima also reported that no specific date has been set for his bout with Saunders. The bout will mark the second time the two have fought, as Lima secured a tourney win in 2011 by stopping the UFC vet.
Lima (24-5) went on to face reigning welterweight champ Ben Askren in April, 2012, but lost by unanimous decision to the renowned wrestler.
Since the defeat the 25 year-old welterweight has scored consecutive wins over Jacob Ortiz, Michail Tsarev and Baker, the latter two of which took place in a tournament format.
Saunders (16-5-2), meanwhile, earned a unanimous decision win over Koffi Adzitso and a KO victory over Raul Amaya to entrench a finals appearance against Lima.
