Bellator 100: Douglas Lima-Ben Saunders Welterweight Finale Headlining
By FCF Staff
After having their bout postponed not once, but twice, Douglas Lima and Ben Saunders will look to determine the Season 8 welterweight tourney winner at Bellator 100 on September 20th. The promotion has confirmed the main event fight and the card, which will take place at the Phoenix’s Grand Canyon University Arena.
Lima (24-5) knocked out Bryan Baker in February to advance to the tourney finale, however, he broke his hand in the bout and the finals were delayed. The two were scheduled to meet at Bellator 97 next Wednesday, but a rib injury to Lima forced the bout to be postponed again.
“I can’t wait for this fight,” Lima said in a press release from the promotion announcing the bout. “I have been injured back to back, but this time I’ll be 100% and we going to have one of the best fights of the year. I am ready to fight for the belt and I am coming hard!”
Saunders (16-5-2), meanwhile, KO’d Raul Amaya in the tourney semis on February 21st. The UFC vet fought Lima at Bellator 57 in 2011, but Saunders was stopped by the powerful welterweight in the second round.
The September 20th card will also feature the opening round of Bellator’s Season 9 welterweight tourney, which will feature UFC vets War Machine and Matt Riddle competing. The event will be broadcast live on SPIKE.
