Joe Warren and Rafael Silva will still fight at tonight’s Bellator 118 card in Atlantic City, however the latter cannot win the promotion’s interim bantamweight title.

Silva, who stepped in for injured champ Eduardo Dantos on short notice, failed to make weight for the bout. Since Warren made weight, the accomplished wrestler could become the interim champion if he wins the five round bout.

“Rafael Silva is a warrior.  He was offered this opportunity 3 weeks ago when Dantas was injured. He had a tremendous amount of weight to cut and got incredibly close, but to push for the last two pounds would simply have been medically unsafe,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said in a press release from the promotion. “Another great warrior here, Joe Warren made weight, so the Belt remains in the line for Joe. We always have a contingency plan in place for instances like this, and we are moving ahead with this 5 round fight which should be fireworks.”

Bellator has also announced that Sam Oropeza will no longer fight Andrey Koreshkov in the welterweight tourney semifinals, after missing weight. Justin Baesman has been tapped to fight Koreshkov.
