Bellator 130: Emanuel Newton to Defend Light-Heavyweight Title
By FCF Staff
It hasn’t taken Bellator long to book Emanuel Newton his next fight, following his KO win over Joey Beltran earlier this month, as the promotion has announced he’ll defend his light-heavyweight title on October 24th.
On that day, Newton will take on Linton Vassell at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas. As per usual, the main card will be broadcast on SPIKE.
Newton (24-7-1) is currently riding a six fight win streak, which also includes wins over “King Mo” Lawal and Mikhail Zayats.
Vassell (14-3), meanwhile, has won three straight since joining Bellator and most recently tapped out Virgil Zwicker.
“I didn’t feel good about my last performance even though I got the knock out,” Newton said in a press release from the promotion. “I wanted to get another fight as soon as possible so I could put on a better performance for the fans, and Coker, Bellator, Spike and Viacom really made it happen. I have to thank everyone involved and I am ready to put on an awesome fight for the fans on October 24.”
“This was not an easy road but I’m living the dream right now, it was only a matter of time before I was fighting for the Bellator World Title,” Vassell said. “The time is now and I’m more than ready to be the first British Bellator LHW World Champion.”
In addition, Bellator has also announced that decorated featherweight Marloes Coenen will fight Annalisa Bucci at the event, and that Dave Jansen will battle fellow, lightweight contender Rick Hawn.
