Bellator 135: Marcos Galvao Takes Bantamweight Belt, Joe Warren Protests Stoppage

Galvao

By FCF Staff

Marcos Galvao laid claim to Bellator’s bantamweight title tonight in Thackerville, Oklahoma, but Joe Warren evidently doesn’t believe that should be the case.

After a busy opening round, Galvao caught Warren with a kneebar shortly into round two, and Warren let out a loud and disturbing scream. Referee “Big” John McCarthy immediately jumped in and stopped the contest, as screaming constitutes a verbal submission.

Although fighters are supposed to be informed that screaming is the same as a verbal tap-out, Warren was extremely upset, and argued in his post-fight interview that he did not submit.

With the victory, Galvao avenged his controversial, 2011 decision loss to Warren.

Here are the main card results for Bellator 135.

Marcos Galvao def. Joe Warren via verbal submission (kneebar) R2, 0:45

LC Davis def. Hideo Tokoro via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Francis Carmont def. Guilherme Viana via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Ryan Couture def. Dakota Cochrane via submission (rear-naked-choke) R1, 3:23
