Bellator 145: Daniel Straus Takes Title From Patricio “Pitbull” in Third Try
By FCF Staff
Daniel Straus needed a third fight to defeat Patricio “Pitbull” Freire, but the well rounded fighter worked his way to a unanimous decision win over the latter at Bellator 145.
Straus outscored Freire for much of the bout, and at one point, dropped the rugged fighter with a thumping left. “Pitbull” did his best to score a late stoppage win, but it was too little, too late. Straus was awarded the UD victory and the featherweight title.
In the co-main event, lightweight champ Will Brooks likely surprised many by turning to his wrestling to earn a win over submission wizard Marcin Held. After the bout, Brooks revealed that he hurt his knee early on in the fight, and couldn’t move effectively on his feet.
