Following Patrick Freire’s win over Benson Henderson at Bellator 183, “Pitbull” is campaigning for a shot at lightweight champ, Brent Primus, over Michael Chandler.

Freire earned a split decision win over Henderson on Saturday night, which was his second win in a row. Since Chandler lost the lightweight title to Primus in somewhat bizarre circumstances – he injured his ankle early on in the bout and it was stopped – the consensus has been he’ll receive an immediate rematch.

Following Bellator 183, however, Freire had this to say (quote via MMA Junkie):

“Listen, I’m the top dog,” Freire said. “He was fighting, he got hurt. He hurt his leg. Nobody knows what happened, and two weeks later, he’s running. That’s his fault.

“I’m at the top of the list. I’ve been at the top of the list for 18 victories. This is my chance. This is my shot. That’s why I deserve it.”

Chandler knocked Freire out in the opening round at Bellator 157 last June.
