Bellator 198: Frank Mir Says Bout With Fedor Emelianenko “More Important” Than Rubber Match With Brock Lesnar

Frank Mir has expressed an interest in fighting Brock Lesnar for a third time, but the former UFC champ believes his fight on Saturday with Fedor Emelianenko, is more important.

Mir quickly submitted Lesnar in the latter’s UFC debut, back in 2008, but was stopped by the massive wrestler in their 2009 rematch. Over the years, talk about whether a rubber match could materialize has never gone away.

But, while discussing Lesnar at a pre-fight press conference for Bellator 198, Mir said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“As far as contributions to the sport, being a well rounded fighter, martial arts ability, Brock is not there, obviously,” Mir said. “(He’s) nowhere near the psychological toughness and strategist that Fedor is. As far as to hardcore fans, I think this is a more important fight with Fedor.”

Mir and Emelianenko will be fighting in their quarter-final bout for Bellator’s heavyweight grand-prix. The winner will advance to a semi-finals bout with Chael Sonnen.
