Gegard Mousasi recorded his eighth straight win last night at Bellator 206, by stopping welterweight champ Rory MacDonald in the opening round, and after the card the middleweight champ reflected on the impressive win.

MacDonald went for an Imanari roll shortly into round two. But, Mousasi defended, and proceeded to work his way into mount, where he finished the fight with vicious strikes from above. At the post-fight presser, Mousasi had this to say about his bout with MacDonald (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I knew I was faster,” Mousasi said. “The gameplan was to throw straight punches, no hooks, and hurt him and make him come and maybe put pressure on him to shoot and take over. Actually, the fight went pretty much the way we planned. It surprised me he didn’t do much. I was the more active fighter. He was the lighter fighter, I thought he would do more.”

The 33 year-old Mousasi, whose record now stands at 45-6-2, relayed he wants to fight the undefeated Rafael Lovato Jr. next.
