After winning Bellator’s heavyweight title this January, Ryan Bader will defend that belt for the first time on September 7th, against Cheick Kongo.

Recently the promotion announced that Bader – Kongo will headline Bellator 226, which will be hosted by the SAP Center in San Jose on that date.

Bader (27-5) secured the heavyweight crown by quickly taking out Fedor Emelianenko at Bellator 214 in the finals of the promotion’s grand prix. The light-heavyweight and heavyweight champ has won seven in a row.

Kongo (30-10-2) is coming off a decision win over former champ Vitaly Minakov in Februray. The UFC veteran has won eight straight.

No other bouts have been announced yet for Bellator 226.
