Bellator 62: Prindle Granted Tourney Win After Santos Misses Weight

Prindle

By FCF Staff

After a third attempt to promote a bout between Thiago Santos and Eric Prindle has failed, due to Santos missing weight by over ten pounds, Bellator has reportedly pulled the plug on the heavyweight finals and awarded the tourney to Prindle.

According to multiple reports, Prindle will face heavyweight champion Cole Konrad in the near future; however, no date has been confirmed.

The failure of Santos to make weight for tonight’s Bellator 62 card in Laredo, Texas, comes one week after Prindle was forced to withdraw from their scheduled bout at Bellator 61 due to illness.

At Bellator 59 in November, a fight between Prindle (7-1) and Santos was declared a no contest, after Prindle could not continue due to an accidental kick to the groin.

The 35 year-old-heavyweight had advanced to the tourney finals through earning victories over Abe Wagner and Ron Spark.

Santos (10-1), who reportedly weighed in at nearly 278 pounds Thursday, is coming off submission wins over Josh Burns and Neil Grove.

Konrad (8-0) has been waiting on the sidelines since August, when the decorated wrestler worked his way to a UD win over Paul Buentello at Bellator 48, in what was a non-title defense.

Tonight’s Bellator 62 card will still feature the opening round of the promotion’s latest lightweight tourney, which will include Patricky “Pitbull” Freire vs. Lloyd Woodard, Rick Hawn vs. Ricardo Tirloni, Thiago Michel vs. Rene Nazare and J.J. Ambrose (155) vs. Brent Weedman.

As always, the event will be broadcast live on MTV 2 and the preliminary card will be streamed on Spike.com.
