After withdrawing from a scheduled bout with Nate Coy this Friday at Bellator 109, Matt Riddle has been released from the promotion. Bellator has not disclosed why the UFC veteran pulled out from the bout, but it has confirmed Riddle will not be returning to the organization.

“Matt was a guy we had high hopes for coming into Bellator,” Bellator Director of Communications Anthony Mazzuca said in a press release from the promotion. “After Matt suffered his rib injury and withdrew from our tournament, we went back to the drawing board and got Matt another fight on November 22nd. Unfortunately, Matt very recently informed us he would not be fighting on November 22nd from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and at that point we decided to release Matt from Bellator. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Several weeks back Riddle announced he was retiring from MMA, after he had withdrawn from the tournament and Bellator hadn’t booked him for another fight this year.

The 27 year-old fighter, who was suspended twice during his run in the UFC after testing positive for marijuana, has not made a public statement yet about the situation.

Riddle currently holds a 7-3 record with 2 no contests.
