Bellator Season 5 Tourney Winner Douglas Lima to Compete in Next Welterweight Competition
By FCF Staff
Bellator Season Five breakout fighter and tourney winner Douglas Lima will look to secure another shot at championship gold, as the ATT Atlanta veteran will compete in the promotion’s next welterweight tournament, according to sources close to the fighter’s camp.
Although Bellator hasn’t officially announced Lima’s participation or the start date for the competition, sources have confirmed to Full Contact Fighter that the 21-5 welterweight will in fact compete in the next tournament.
Lima captured headlines in 2011 by scoring wins over Steve Carl, Chris Lozano and Ben Saunders to win Bellator’s Season Five tournament. Both the victories over Lozano and Saunders occurred via knockout.
This past April, the 24 year-old Lima dropped a unanimous decision loss to Bellator champion Ben Askren, which ended the former MFC champion’s nine fight win streak.
Bellator’s current, Season Six welterweight competition will come to a close on July 20th, as Karl Amoussou (15-4-2) will take on former middleweight Bryan Baker (18-3) in the tournament finals.
