Bellator’s Douglas Lima Confirms Broken Hand, Believes Title Fight Will Take Place Early 2014

Lima finishing Ben Saunders

By Kelsey Mowatt

Douglas Lima secured another tourney win at Bellator 100 by knocking out Ben Saunders in brutal fashion, but as the welterweight suspected was the case afterwards, he broke his hand while doing so.

While speaking to Full Contact Fighter today the punishing striker confirmed that he fractured his right hand, for the second time this year, during the September 20th bout.

“Ya man, I broke it one more time. It was actually just a fracture,” Lima said. “The same place I broke it last time, so now I’m waiting four more weeks until it heals, and then I’m going to do another surgery to remove the pins I have in the hand.”

Lima also broke the hand during his stoppage win over Bryan Baker in February, which delayed the tourney final with Saunders.

“Six more weeks; after that I should be good to go. I was really upset after the fight…It’s all good. The main important thing now is that I have to heal up and make sure I’m 100% for the title fight.”

Lima also said that he expects to fight for the title next February or March. If reigning champ and free agent Ben Askren does not resign with Bellator, Lima believes the winner of the current welterweight tourney could fight for the championship.
