Belo Horizonte’s “Mineirinho” Arena to Host UFC 147

By FCF Staff

UFC 147 finally has a confirmed venue and location, as today the promotion announced that the upcoming June 23rd event will be hosted by the “Mineirinho” Arena  in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The indoor stadium, which is officially titled Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond, has a seating capacity of up to 25,000 people.

“It is great for our fans and for the UFC to be able to stage events in new parts of Brazil. The UFC is exploding everywhere in the country and Minas Gerais, being the third biggest state in the country, seemed like the perfect place for this. Not only has Mineirinho received some major acts through the years, but it is also located in a central and touristic area of the city. It will certainly be a fantastic experience for the fans”, Marshall Zelaznik, UFC Managing Director of International Development, was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion.

UFC 147 will feature a rematch between middleweights Vitor Belfot (21-9) and Wanderlei Silva (34-11-1) in the main event.

Belfort stopped Silva in just 44 seconds at UFC 17.5 “Ultimate Brazil” in October, 1998.

The card will also include a heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Mike Russow, as well as the featherweight and middleweight finals from the TUF “Brazil” program.
