Bisping Expresses Interest in Fighting Diaz, White Adds “I Love That Fight”

Nick Diaz

By FCF Staff

Following his unanimous decision loss to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 158 this past March, Nick Diaz said it would take a rematch with the welterweight champ or a big name fight to get him back in the Octagon, and so far, that hasn’t happened. While few people seem to believe the 30 year-old fighter will never fight again, clearly the right opportunity has to come forward, as his teammate Gilber Melendez relayed earlier this week.

Well, after hearing what Melendez had to say about Diaz’s situation, Michael Bisping tweeted the following “well if Diaz wants a fight at 185 I would happily welcome him to the division.” Then, after UFC President Dana White asked for his thoughts about the possible fight, he tweeted “I love that fight.”

While a couple of statements on Twitter certainly doesn’t mean the bout is officially in the works, it will be interesting to see if the promotion follows up on the proposed bout. Bisping is one of the UFC’s biggest names and top middleweights, so it might be the type of challenge Diaz is looking for. Although Diaz has been competing at 170, he has expressed an interest in fighting former middleweight champ Anderson Silva in the past.

Bisping is still recovering from eye surgery and is not expected to be back until early 2014.
