In a move that every longtime MMA fan knew would take place at some juncture, the UFC has announced that it will be inducting BJ Penn into the promotion’s Hall of Fame this July.

During Penn’s storied career, the BJJ black belt won the UFC’s lightweight title and the promotion’s welterweight championship.

The Hawaiian fighter defeated notable names like Matt Hughes, Sean Sherk, Jens Pulver, Diego Sanchez and Kenny Florian, among others, during his UFC run.

Most recently, Penn faced former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar last July, and was stopped by the latter.

“The Prodigy” finished his career with a record of 16-10-2. Penn will be inducted during the UFC 189 weekend on July 11th.
