Bobby Green vs. Jorge Masvidal Confirmed Added to November 3rd Strikeforce

Masvidal

Speculation and Rumors Continue Regarding Promotion’s Future

By FCF Staff

As speculation continues as to what the future holds for Strikeforce’s upcoming November 3rd event, as a result of Luke Rockhold’s withdrawal to injury, the promotion has added a lightweight bout between Jorge Masvidal and Bobby Green to the card.

Masvidal (23-7) is coming off a split decision win over Justin Wilcox in July, after falling by unanimous decision to champion Gilbert Melendez last December.

Green (19-5), on the other hand, has won four straight fights and is coming off a UD win over Matt Ricehouse in August.

Since the news surfaced that Rockhold would no longer fight Lorenz Larkin on the November 3rd event, there has been speculation as to whether the card would continue as planned. Headliner Daniel Cormier has yet to have another opponent confirmed, after former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir was forced to withdraw from an injury.

Showtime elected to not broadcast a scheduled September 29th event, after the aforementioned Melendez was unable to fight due to injury. Strikeforce decided to cancel the card altogether as a result.

AXS TV’s “Inside MMA” program is reporting that according to sources, Showtime is considering ending its broadcasting relationship with Strikeforce, which could very well spell the promotion’s demise.

MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, however, relayed via Twitter that a Showtime official is saying that the November 3rd card and “beyond is a go.”

While 2012 has seen the rise of Strikeforce’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, the promotion has seen parent company ZUFFA move several of its top fighters move to the UFC, and the organization’s schedule has been drastically reduced.

The November 3rd card is scheduled to take place in Oklahoma City.
