Bruno Cappelozza Posts Statement, After Winning PFL Championship And Learning of Father’s Death
By FCF Staff
After winning the PFL’s heavyweight championship on Wednesday, Bruno Cappelozza learned that his father had passed away this past weekend. The fighter has since commented on the devastating news.
Cappelozza (14-5) recorded a decision win over Ante Delija to win the heavyweight tourney, and $1 million dollars. After his victory, however, he was informed that his father had died on Sunday. Cappelozza’s family had decided to not tell the fighter of his father’s death, so that he could focus on the championship fight.
More recently, the 32-year-old Brazilian fighter posted the following statement via Instagram (translation via MMA Junkie).
“Happiest and Saddest day of my life,” Cappelozza wrote in Portuguese. “I didn’t know I had lost my greatest love and friend of my life. Thank you for everything, things that only God can explain, I love you beyond life, thank you for teaching me to be this human being that I am.”
Cappelozza extended his winning streak to four on Wednesday, and the only fighter to defeat him since 2015 is UFC contender, Jiri Prochazka.
