Cain Velasquez Wants To Defend UFC Heavyweight Crown Against Junior Dos Santos In Mexico

UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez

By Michael Hatamoto

UFC champion Cain Velasquez is interested in defending his championship against Junior dos Santos in an already highly anticipated trilogy fight – and Velasquez wants the main event fight to be in Mexico.

It’s not something he’s going to focus on, though the UFC might want to try and get the fight in a stadium.

“When you talk about a trilogy between two heavyweights, this is a trilogy,” UFC President Dana White said during the UFC 160 post-fight press conference.

Both fighters were able to win at UFC 160 on Saturday night, which paved the way for a trilogy fight. JDS finished Mark Hunt in spectacular fashion during round three, landing a spinning wheel kick. Velasquez easily dispatched of Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva yet again, showing all heavyweights that the American Kickboxing Academy-trainer is clearly No. 1.

I look forward to a third fight between Cain and JDS, as I believe JDS is seeking redemption from a very poor outing during their second fight. Since that loss to JDS at UFC on Fox: Velasquez vs. dos Santos in 2011, Velasquez has won three straight fights – against Bigfoot (2x) and JDS – and has looked extremely dominant.

During their rematch at UFC 155 in December 2012, Velasquez beat JDS in a lopsided five-round, 25-minute unanimous decision win.

What do you think about Cain vs. JDS III? Would it be a good fight for a stadium in the United States or Brazil? How about in Mexico?
