Cavalcante vs. Romero, Kyle vs. de Lima Added to Sept. 10th Strikeforce

By FCF Staff

The upcoming, September 10th, “Strikeforce Heavyweight World Grand Prix: Barnett vs. Kharitonov” event now has eight fights confirmed, as the promotion has announced that Rafael Cavalcante will meet Yoel Romero and Mike Kyle will fight Marcos Rogerio de Lima. The card will be hosted by Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena and will feature the heavyweight grand-prix semifinals, which will see Sergei Kharitonov take on Josh Barnett and Antonio Silva battle Daniel Cormier.

Cavalcante (10-3) will return to action for the first time since March, when he was stopped by Dan Henderson and surrendered the promotion’s light-heavyweight belt. Prior to the loss “Feijao” had won three straight fights.

The Strikeforce newcomer Romero (4-0), is coming off a knockout win over Laszlo Eck in May, while competing on a Fight of the Night card in Germany.

Kyle (18-8-1) will be looking to rebound from the stoppage loss he suffered at the hands of Antonio Silva in December, which ended the UFC vet’s six fight undefeated streak.

Lima (8-0) will make his Strikeforce debut having scored a unanimous decision win over former WEC middleweight champ Paulo Filho in December, while competing under the First Class Fight banner in Brazil.

The September 10th event will be broadcast on Showtime. Some of the other confirmed bouts for the card include middleweight champion “Jacare” Souza vs. Luke Rockhold, “King Mo” Lawal vs. Roger Gracie, and Josh Thomson vs. Maximo Blanco.
