Shortly removed from the news that Rory MacDonald will rematch Carlos Condit on March 16th at UFC 158, it appears that a welterweight title fight between champion Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz is in the works for the card as well.

Recently UFC President Dana White revealed that St. Pierre has asked to fight Diaz next, and in a follow up report from MMA Fighting, he relayed that the bout is being targeted for UFC 158.

Diaz’s manager, Cesar Gracie, confirmed to Full Contact Fighter today that his fighter has been offered the bout.

Although the all-star fight has yet to be signed, Gracie recently told FCF that “We would absolutely be happy, obviously, to take that fight next if that is the case,” while discussing recent comments from St. Pierre’s trainer Firas Zahabi, and the prospect of a GSP, Diaz bout.

Zahabi had relayed that he believes Diaz is more deserving of a title shot than rising welterweight Johny Hendricks, who knocked out fellow contender Martin Kampmann at UFC 154.

Diaz is currently serving a one year suspension for testing positive for marijuana metabolites, following his unanimous decision loss to Condit last February. The former Strikeforce champ’s suspension is set to end in early February.

St. Pierre, who is coming off a successful return from knee surgery, worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Condit at the aforementioned UFC 154 card.

UFC 158 will be hosted by Montreal’s Bell Centre.
