CFFC 47: Jonavin Webb Says he Has The “Tools” to Beat Elijah Harshbarger, But Wants Rematch With Lyman Good “Win, Lose or Draw”

Although Jonavin Webb has yet to be defeated in his pro career, in his mind, when he takes on Elijah Harshbarger tomorrow night at CFFC 47, he’ll be looking to rebound from a loss.

Webb faced former Bellator champ Lyman Good at CFFC 43 last November, but the bout was brought to a halt in round three, after the “Sypder” was poked in the eye. The fight was called a no contest, and as a result, Webb will be defending the promotion’s welterweight belt when he faces Harshberger on Saturday.

“Yeah. My performance sucked,” Webb (7-0) acknowledged on a recent episode of FCF Radio. “He was whupping my ass for that fight. I’m not going to blame it on anything, it was just a bad fight for me. I wasn’t prepared. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

“I gave my props to him after the fight, that he really won that fight, and I think the no contest thing, it sucks man,” Webb furthered. “I kind of wish that it was a loss, more than that I’d rather take the loss and not have to deal with this, but it’s whatever. I wasn’t in charge of that, it was up to the referee and the doctor. They made the decision and now it is what it is. I’m going to fight him again and hopefully there’s no eye pokes, or low blows, or anything to stop the fight again.”

While Webb hopes to rematch Good in May, the opportunity to fight Harshbarger materialized in the interim, and the 7-0 fighter elected to take it. Harshbarger (7-4) is coming off a submission win over UFC vet Chris Cope in January, 2014, which marked the first time he had competed since 2011.

“I think he’s a tough dude,” Webb said about Harshbarger. “He always comes in shape. It’s going to be a tough fight, but his strength is wrestling, which is my strength, and also my jiu-jitsu. His weakness is jiu-jitsu. All his losses are armbars and stuff like that so. Again, I think he’s a tough guy, he’s a great opponent. I just think I have the tools to beat him on Saturday.”

And what does Webb have to say to those who’d argue he’s taking a risk by facing Harshbarger now? Instead of waiting for a chance to rematch Good and put that controversy to rest?

“Every fight is risky. It doesn’t matter if the guy’s 0-10 or 10-0. It doesn’t matter,” the Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu fighter stated. “But I’m a fighter and I fight. I think it’s a good fight for me. I know a lot of people were upset, or think that I was dodging Lyman…I’m only worried about this fight this weekend, but I’m already set in my mind that win, lose or draw, May 9th I’m fighting Lyman…”

CFFC 47 will be hosted by the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and the card will be available via online pay-per-view through Go Fight Live.
