UFC featherweight contender Chad Mendes has confirmed that he will no longer compete at UFC 157 on February 23rd, after his original opponent Manny Gamburyan was forced to withdraw due a thumb and elbow injury. Although Gamburyan’s withdrawal happened last week, the promotion had evidently tried to find Mendes a replacement for the Anaheim bound card.

Mendes announced vis his official Twitter account, however, that:

Well guys it looks like I’m off the Anaheim card. Sucks pretty bad. Ill keep everyone updated with what I find out. Sorry.

Manny was injured and no one would step up

Mendes (13-1) is coming off back-to-back KO wins over Cody McKenzie and most recently Yaotzin Meza, which took place at a UFC on FX card in December.

The wins came after the Team Alpha Male fighter was knocked out by champion Jose Aldo last January.

UFC 157 will be hosted by Anaheim’s Honda Center and will feature women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey versus Liz Carmouche in the main event.
