Chad Mendes Reports Hand Isn’t Broken After UFC 133 Win

By FCF Staff

It appears as though featherweight contender Chad Mendes will be free to resume his title shot quest relatively soon. The Team Alpha Male fighter is reporting that his hand is not broken as originally feared, following his unanimous decision win over Rani Yahya Saturday night at UFC 133.

The following post appeared on the official Twitter account of Mendes.

Nothin is broken but I do have torn/sprained ligaments in my hand n ankle. Still great news tho! Should be fine in a few weeks!

Earlier in the year it was expected that Mendes would be the next fighter to challenge featherweight champion Jose Aldo, but after an injury sidelined the highly regarded Brazilian, Mendes elected to fight Yahya.

Aldo will now face Kenny Florian, October 8th at UFC 136.

Since signing with Zuffa last year, Mendes has won six straight bouts competing for the WEC and more recently the UFC. The 26 year-old-fighter made his Octagon debut in February and scored a unanimous decision win over Japanese veteran Michihiro Omigawa.
